A Bay Area organization focused on placing animals in lasting homes, is seeking an Executive Director to oversee the leadership and management of the organization in accordance with the Board of Directors. This role will act as a strategic advisor, financial planner, HR partner, PR liaison, and active community member. The Executive Director will play a critical role in the short and long-term operational success of the business and will be responsible for upholding the key values of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Advise the Board of Directors on all internal activities and relevant external trends or issues
Facilitate Board meetings by creating agendas, propose topics for discussion, and manage follow up on all necessary action items
Ensure the humane treatment of shelter guests, implement short and long-term strategies that increase rescues, increase adoptions, improve animal care, and provide behavior and medical rehabilitation, free spaying, neutering, and training/behavioral advice
Oversee the planning, coordination, review, and implementation of strategic programming in direct accordance with organizational values and goals
Direct the administration of various programs including but not limited to, shelter management, adoptions, foster care, education, outreach, fundraising, stewardship, and veterinary services
Act as a spokesperson and liaison on behalf of the organization in all marketing efforts; fellow nonprofits, businesses, and all media sources
Develop relationships with donors, community members, and stakeholders; actively seek out channels for future philanthropic opportunities
Uphold state and federal HR practices through effective implementation among all staff
Maintain official records for all adoptions, staff personnel files, volunteer information, budgets, Board activity, and various organizational functions
Determine staffing needs to meet necessary requirements and maintain operational efficiency
Manage the recruiting and hiring process, from sourcing candidates to onboarding and performance evaluations
Partner with the Director of Finance & Operations to develop and manage the budget, prepare financial reports, monitor financial compliance, and assist in any bookkeeping or accounting needs

Evaluate potential risks to the organization; implement measures to effectively safeguard private data and mitigate issues that may arise
Qualifications:
10+ years in a leadership role
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Master’s preferred
Animal welfare experience
Ability to develop & manage a large-scale budget
Skilled in Microsoft 365
Adept at conflict resolution
Analytical and highly communicative
Ability to work in-person & show proof of vaccination
