Small single-family office seeks Director of Operations / Associate General Counsel


Director of Operations / Associate General Counsel is the nexus of our family office universe. The position demands a blend of legal expertise, managerial acumen, meticulous attention to detail, and discretion. Key responsibilities include staff management, event coordination, property maintenance, and oversight of legal matters specific to the family office.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Legal Counsel and Compliance:

  • Provide advice on employment-related matters, including policies, wage and hour compliance, performance management, leaves of absence, discipline, terminations, and internal investigations.

  • Manage employment-related disputes, aiming to avoid litigation and proactively minimize risks.

  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training programs to drive compliance and risk management.

  • Support strategic transactions through due diligence and agreement drafting.

  • Identify, evaluate, and engage with third-party professionals, such as CPAs, attorneys specializing in various fields, insurance agents, real estate agents, mortgage lenders, business managers, and healthcare specialists.


HR/Staff Management:

  • Spearhead recruiting, training, onboarding, and retention.

  • Oversee performance reviews, scheduling, PTO, and employee culture initiatives.

  • Develop systems and streamlined communications to setup a happy house culture.

  • Facilitate feedback from the principal and aid staff in task prioritization.

  • Conduct biweekly staff meetings and serve as the primary contact for staff concerns.

  • Manage diverse family office activities, including financial reporting, household support, concierge services, and philanthropy.


Household/Event Management:

  • Collaborate with Principals, chefs, assistants, and security to execute corporate and family events.

  • Manage budgets and optimize resource allocation.


Property Management:

  • Perform daily walkthroughs and oversee maintenance, vendor relations, and renovations.

  • Coordinate with security on property access and NDA enforcement.


Health and Wellness Management:

  • Collaborate with wellness teams, chefs, nannies, and medical staff to implement wellness protocols.


Guest Oversight:

  • Accommodate guests, ensuring comfort, satisfaction, and timely communication with principals.


Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal qualification.

  • Extensive experience in both legal and operations management, ideally within a family office environment.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and discretion.

  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Integrity, trustworthiness, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
